(Applies to Part I, Part II and Part III exams)
This checklist explains what to expect on exam day and what you must do to start and complete your APSCA exam successfully.
✅ Before You Start ▼
Quiet exam space
Make sure your exam area is private and free from interruptions.
Identification ready
Have your government-issued photo ID ready for verification.
Read exam instructions
Carefully read all instructions before starting your exam.
Open the Guardian Browser
You must use the Guardian Browser. Do not use any other browser.
Close any remote control software
You will not be permitted to sit your exam with remote control software running on your computer. Applications like TeamViewer, GoToMyPC, AnyDesk, etc. must be fully closed — not just minimized.
Check your equipment
Confirm your webcam, microphone, and internet connection are working.
Plug in your computer
Ensure your computer is connected to its power source before you begin. The recording and exam setup may drain more power than normal use. If you need to find a power source after the exam has started, you must first inform your proctor — any lost time will not be compensated.
Take a bathroom break
Breaks are not permitted during the exam. Take any necessary bathroom breaks before your exam starts.
📋 Permitted Resources ▼
| Exam Part | Permitted Resources |
|---|---|
| Part I | No materials permitted |
| Part II | Calculator (not on phone or computer), one blank sheet of A4 or letter size paper |
| Part III | Calculator (not on phone or computer), no paper permitted |
🖥️ Logging In and Starting the Exam ▼
Log in early
Log in to your APSCA online account at least 10 minutes before your exam time.
Click Open Exam
Go to the Invoices tab and click Open Exam on your exam line. You can also use the Launch Link in your APSCA exam confirmation email. This will open ProctorU.

Once in ProctorU, click Start to begin your exam. This button will only appear at your scheduled exam time.
If the Start button does not appear
Use the Chat button in the bottom right of the ProctorU screen to connect with ProctorU support immediately.
⚠️ Late arrival: Arriving more than 15 minutes late may be marked as a No Show and the full exam fee will apply.
Log on to the exam site
Once connected with ProctorU, you will be guided through to the APSCA exam site. For a step-by-step walkthrough, see:

Keep your phone nearby while connecting — the proctor may call if there are issues. Once the exam starts, phones must be switched off and out of reach.
Follow proctor instructions
Listen carefully and follow all directions throughout the exam.
Issues during the exam
Use the ProctorU chat box as soon as any issue occurs. Do not wait.
You are NOT permitted to:
- Record, screenshot, or print anything from the exam at any point — including during setup
- Take photos or record the Proctor, Interviewer, or Evaluator
- Use any printed materials, access the internet, or use any external resources during the exam (unless prior approval has been given by APSCA). This includes using right-click to obtain synonyms or definitions
- Receive help from any person during the exam
- Get up from your workstation or leave the room at any time during the exam
- Have any digital devices at your workstation — including smart phone, tablet, smart watch, or earbuds/headphones (headphones are permitted for Part III only)
- Have any papers or pamphlets of any kind at your workstation (except one blank sheet of paper for Part II)
⚠️ Special accommodations: If you require special accommodations due to medical reasons, these must be arranged in advance directly with APSCA at exam@theapsca.org. Accommodations cannot be established with your Member Firm or ProctorU alone.
🎥 Part III Only — Additional Requirements ▼
Microsoft Teams
Part III is a live, simulated interview conducted via Microsoft Teams. This exam is different from Part I and Part II. Ensure Microsoft Teams is tested and working in your browser before exam day — see Pre-Exam Preparation & Equipment Testing.
Alternate Language — select correctly when starting
If you booked your exam as Alternate Language, you must select Alternate Language when starting your exam in ProctorU. Do not select English.
🌐 Part III Only — Tips for Working with a Translator ▼
If you are sitting Part III with a translator, please note the following:
- The interviewer will spend the first 5–10 minutes explaining how the exam will work with a translator and answering any questions you may have.
- You will only see the interviewer on screen. The translator is audio only and cannot see you or the interviewer's screen.
- You can right-click translate the scenario and exam questions. You can write your notes and answers in your own language — the interviewer will use right-click translate to mark the exam.
- Speak in shorter sentences — the translator will do a literal translation. Make sure your answers clearly convey your message.
- If the translator asks for clarification or to repeat what you said, rephrase the sentence in a different way rather than repeating it.
